Mechanical Dredging
Eco Dredging Ltd has a wide range of mechanical dredge equipment at her disposal.
Mechanical dredging (as opposed to hydraulic dredging with cutter suction dredges) is the dredge method in which sediments are dredged with machines like excavators, floating bulldozers, etc. and transported over water in hopper barges and over road in trucks with water tight containers.
Hydraulic excavators (with long jibs if required) on land, on pontoons or on their own stabilizing legs, small hopper barges and push boats, floating bulldozers are very unique machines that have proven their effectiveness
in the past.
In case sediments on the water bottoms are very contaminated it is mostly impossible to pump the dredged sediments to a disposal site. The costs of the construction and organization of such a deposit are very high. Citizens are worried by the hazardous contents pumped in and do strongly oppose the presence of such a deposit in their neighborhood.
In these cases the contaminated sediments are excavated with the aid of excavators or pushed up by the floating bulldozers.
Dredged sediments can also be transported over greater distances in
hopper barges.
A special machine is the combination of mechanic and hydraulic dredging.
The machine is a strong excavator on tracks with jib and pump. The pump is placed in the specially designed bucket at the end of the jib. The pump sucks up the pushed up sediments and pump/sprays it over the land right behind the excavator.
This is a very fast method and can be done when the sediments in the waterway are not or only slighted contaminated.
Eco Dredging Ltd has many years of experience in the dredging of lightly
to heavily contaminated sediments. Our cabins on all equipment can be pressurized as to work in strongly contaminated sediments.
Cutter Suction Dredges
The Cutter suction Dredge is a stationary dredge. It is positioned on wires and anchors and/or spuds.
When the dredger is positioned on the spuds the ladder with the cutter head moves from starboard to portside and back by means of hydraulic rams.
With extended and articulated ladders a wide area can be dredged. The long ladder also allows for dredging under pontoons, yachts, fishing boats and anything else afloat. The extended ladders can reach lengths of 20 metres.
The small dredge can also operate as any other cutter suction dredge and work on wires and anchors.
Our Cutter Suction Dredges can dredge in waters from 0, 40 metres down till 40, 00 metres.
Eco Dredging Ltd has at her disposal more than 20 cutter suction dredges with size varying from 5” to 12” dredge pumps.
The smallest of the cutter suction dredge has a width of 1,40 metres, draft of about 0,50 metres and vertical clearance of 0,40 metres. This little dredge can operate in the smallest of waterways.
Ancillary equipment
Eco Dredging Ltd has an extended and versatile range of ancillary equipment for the execution of dredge projects.
Floating equipment like work pontoon with hoisting facilities, survey vessels, safety boats, aquatic plants and weed cutter.
For the laying of delivery pipes in difficult and rugged terrain an swamp tracked vehicle has been modified and fitted with hoisting gear and some all terrain fork lifts.
To quickly drain water from sediment disposal sites a Amphiroll is used. This machine is equipped with two wormlike wheels on which it moves in the soft sediment. By moving forward it creates two field drains.
When deeper drains are required two discuss type wheels, filled with water to make them heavier, and are towed behind the Amphiroll.
For pumping dredged sediments over greater distances to a disposal site boosters are put to work. Eco
Dredging Ltd has a number of radio controlled booster stations.
